Jets pound Aleppo in government push to take city: Government fighter jets backed by Russian air force pound rebel-held Aleppo, as ground assault begins:
Syrian government
forces and their allies began a major ground offensive to retake the
opposition-held east of Aleppo on Tuesday, the biggest ground assault
yet in a massive new campaign that has destroyed a US-backed ceasefire.
More than 275,000 civilians are believed to be trapped
inside the besieged rebel-held sector of Aleppo, where intensive bombing
over the past week has killed hundreds of people, many trapped under
buildings brought down by bunker-busting bombs.
Only about 30 doctors are left in rebel-held Aleppo,
coping with hundreds of wounded each day who are being treated on the
floors of hospitals that are bereft of supplies.
The World Health Organization called for the "immediate
establishment of humanitarian routes to evacuate sick and wounded" from
the besieged eastern part of the city.

NY Times report asserts that the Russians and Asad are stepping up attacks on Aleppo in order to force the US-backed opposition to make an alliance with al-Nusra and ISIS so that they can be attacked as in league with terrorists and therefore the US should back Asad. I don't know the validity - but if true it's yet more cruel rationale for increased horror. As for camouflage fashion - I remember returning from Beirut in the midst of civil war to see women in heels walking with such outfits and I broke down to cry in sadness and disgust.
Hilton, yes, there is that line of thinking. And at this point it's difficult to imagine a degree of callousness and cynicism that would be beyond the Russians, in this whole business. The pleasure being drawn by Lavrov and Putin from the humiliation of Kerry and Obama almost seems more anthropological than geopolitical. The sacrifice of the people of Aleppo, an afterthought.
Ach, fashion.
